Who are we?
The Tasting Table wasn't really planned, it just sort of happened. I'd been working too many hours for ungrateful corporates, and to escape my desk for a while was sipping a lovely coffee in my local café. I picked up the Decanter magazine to read whilst enjoying my cappuccino and something clicked.
I have always loved wine, red, white or rosé, there is so much enjoyment to be had from sampling that perfectly chilled white or pale pink, or a glorious rich warming red, with a bit of spice to sit alongside a slow cooked casserole or roast beef. What's not to enjoy!
Growing up in my native NZ, I witnessed the rise of the mighty Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. I watched my parents’ generation move on from the days of Black Tower (which seemed to be the only white wine around!) and begin exploring new varieties. Reading Decanter that day reminded me of that shift and surprised me with how accessible and unpretentious wine knowledge could actually be!
This started me thinking, how little most people really know about wine and how often we become stuck on buying the same thing. You hear all the time 'I only drink Merlot', or 'Mine's a Pinot Grigio please'! It's not because people don’t want to try something new, but it's often because they don’t know what else to choose. It’s safe! I have spent many years enjoying those famous NZ Sauvs myself, but with so many beautiful and often underrepresented grapes available, why limited yourself?
So, that was the lightbulb moment, why not share the thing I love with others in a fun and friendly way, and explore the world of wine without the pretence, just have some fun with it!
So the Tasting Table was born, I'm not an expert and certainly no wine snob, just someone who adores wine, the choices it offers and the fun it brings. Pairing with food, especially cheese, it's a never ending adventure, and there's so much still to discover!
The Tasting Table specialises in creating fun, informative wine tasting experiences in the lovely coastal area of Torbay, Devon. We're here for wine lovers who want to learn more, enjoy with friends, and explore the wonderful world of wine.

We don’t have a fixed address, and that’s part of the fun. The Tasting Table pops up in beautiful cafés, cosy clubs, and tucked away venues across the region. Each tasting is a new discovery, blending flavour with place. When you book your location will be listed so check this carefully.
